Vote counting is continuing in Benin, a day after legislative and municipal elections were held across the country.

Nearly nine million voters were called to the polls to elect 109 members of parliament and more than 1,800 municipal councillors.

As the nation awaits initial trends from the vote, civil society organisations that monitored the elections have begun releasing their assessments.
