At least twelve people, including children, have been killed in a road accident along the Abuja–Lokoja highway in Nigeria.

The incident occurred in the Gada-Biyu community on Sunday when a runaway truck reportedly lost control while speeding.

The crash has renewed concerns over the safety of commuters and residents living around informal loading points on major highways.

WADR’s Abuja correspondent, Usman Umar, reports that the tragedy has intensified calls for stricter regulation of heavy-duty vehicles across the country.
