The Gambia Immigration Department has launched a new security operation to curb irregular migration through the country’s coastal and river routes.

The initiative, dubbed Operation Zero Departure, is aimed at preventing clandestine departures by sea and inland waterways.

Authorities say the move follows a surge in irregular maritime journeys, commonly referred to as “the back way.”

The operation is expected to strengthen border surveillance and disrupt human smuggling networks.
