Guinea’s Court of Appeal in Conakry has announced the death of Claude Pivi, a former minister under the regime of Captain Moussa Dadis Camara.
Pivi was a key suspect in the September 2009 stadium massacre, which left at least 150 people dead and hundreds injured. He had been serving a life sentence handed down on July 31, 2024.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Pivi suffered from several chronic illnesses, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and gout, and was receiving medical follow-up while in detention.
Authorities say a failure to adhere to his treatment reportedly led to severe hypoglycemia. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
