The ECOWAS Civil Society Movement in Liberia is urging the government to overhaul the Mineral Development Agreement Law of 2000 to better serve national development goals.
The group argues that decades of mineral exploitation have brought limited benefits to ordinary Liberians, despite the country’s vast natural resource wealth.
According to the movement, long-term mineral investments have largely favored foreign interests, while Liberia continues to lag behind in infrastructure, social services, and economic growth.
Civil society actors say reforming mineral agreements is critical to ensuring fair revenue sharing, transparency, and sustainable development for the country.
