Malian refugees are arriving in growing numbers in southeastern Mauritania, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
UNHCR says more than one thousand people crossed into Mauritania in the past week alone, adding pressure on already stretched host communities.
The refugees are fleeing persistent insecurity in Mali, including armed violence and instability in several regions.
Humanitarian agencies warn that sustained support will be needed to address shelter, food, and protection needs as the influx continues.
