Guineans went to the polls on Sunday to elect the country’s next president, with voting taking place in a generally calm and peaceful atmosphere nationwide.

Despite the smooth conduct of the process, observers reported low voter turnout at several polling stations across the country.

The General Directorate of Elections has announced that provisional results will be released within 48 hours after the vote.

The outcome is expected to shape Guinea’s political direction in the coming years.
