The Nigerian Immigration Service has intercepted and rescued dozens of women and children believed to be victims of a cross-border human trafficking operation in the country’s northeast.

Authorities say the 59 victims were travelling from Katsina State to N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, when they were intercepted.

Further details are expected as investigations continue.
