Debate has intensified in Liberia over proposed amendments to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, raising concerns about the future of the country’s anti-graft efforts.

The controversy centres on plans to remove tenure protections for commissioners of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, a move the chairperson warns could weaken the agency’s independence.

Speaking before a legislative committee on Wednesday, the LACC chairperson strongly opposed changes to Section 6.1.6 of the Act.

WADR’s Monrovia correspondent, Abraham Parker, reports.
