The United States has imposed a full travel ban on nationals from several countries, including four in West Africa, as President Donald Trump broadens existing immigration restrictions.

Under the new directive, citizens of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Sierra Leone are barred from entering the United States. The ban also affects South Sudan and Laos, alongside additional restrictions on other nationalities.

The White House says the decision aligns with the administration’s tougher immigration stance and is intended to prevent the entry of individuals considered potential security threats.

The move follows the recent killing of two U.S. troops and a civilian in Syria, an incident authorities say involved a security officer facing dismissal over alleged extremist views.
