Madagascar has been hit by tropical cyclone Fytia, leaving at least three people dead and more than 28,000 affected.
According to the National Office for Risk and Disaster Management (BNGRC), Fytia made landfall on Saturday morning in the western part of the country before moving back out to sea via the eastern coast.
The cyclone has also caused five injuries, destroyed over 800 homes completely, and flooded more than 6,000 houses.
Hardest-hit areas include Soalala, Marovoay and Mahajanga in the northwest, as well as the capital Antananarivo, with 19 districts affected overall.
Meteorological services are warning that rainy weather is expected to continue in the northern and central-western regions in the coming days, raising concerns about further flooding and challenges for recovery efforts.
Officials are assessing ongoing damage and coordinating relief operations as communities begin the process of rebuilding.
