Burkina Faso’s transitional government has recovered approximately 74 percent of territory previously controlled by terrorist groups. Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo announced the milestone Friday during his state of the nation address before the Transitional Legislative Assembly.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the territorial gains represent a marked acceleration in military operations across the country. Security forces have intensified campaigns to dismantle armed groups and restore state authority in regions long plagued by violence and instability.
This progress signals a turning point in Burkina Faso’s fight against insurgency, which had displaced thousands and crippled local governance in vast rural areas. Reclaiming three-quarters of contested land strengthens the transitional government’s legitimacy and operational reach.
The disclosure underscores the military-led administration’s focus on security as a cornerstone of its governance agenda. While challenges remain in consolidating control and ensuring civilian safety, the territorial recovery marks a significant step toward stabilizing the nation.
