Niger’s transitional authorities say a mercenary attack was responsible for the exchange of gunfire at Niamey International Airport.
Transitional President General Abdourahmane Tiani has accused external forces of involvement in the incident.
He specifically named France, Benin, and Côte d’Ivoire as being linked to the alleged attack.
The accusations add to rising regional tensions and deepen diplomatic strains between Niger and its neighbours.
