Opposition political leaders in Nigeria have raised alarm over what they describe as increasing threats to the country’s multiparty democratic system. They accuse the administration of President Bola Tinubu of using state institutions to intimidate and weaken opposition voices.

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, the leaders warned that such actions, if left unchecked, could undermine democratic governance and erode public confidence in state institutions. They stressed that a healthy democracy depends on fair competition and respect for political pluralism.

The opposition further cautioned that the situation could heighten political tensions as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections. They urged authorities to uphold constitutional principles and protect democratic freedoms.

Nigeria’s political landscape has remained highly polarized, with analysts noting that how the government responds to these concerns may shape the credibility of future electoral processes and democratic stability.
