Niger has strengthened its partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to support sustainable rural development across the country. The initiative targets vulnerable farming communities facing persistent food security and climate challenges.

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine signed a financing agreement valued at more than one billion CFA francs to launch a new agricultural project. The programme will focus on improving productivity and resilience in rural areas.

The project will be implemented in the Dosso and Tillabéri regions, two zones critical to Niger’s agricultural output but heavily affected by environmental pressures and insecurity. It is expected to enhance livelihoods through improved farming practices and resource management.

Authorities say the partnership reflects Niger’s commitment to long-term food security and rural transformation, while FAO officials reaffirmed their support for sustainable agriculture and community-based development across the country.
