ECOWAS has lifted all sanctions imposed on Guinea following the September 5, 2021 coup d’état, marking a major diplomatic shift for the country.
Guinean authorities have welcomed the decision, describing it as a significant relief and a positive step toward regional reintegration.
However, the move has drawn criticism from sections of civil society and socio-political actors.
They argue that ECOWAS should have first demanded the release of political prisoners and the restoration of civil liberties before fully reinstating Guinea.
