Concerned workers of the Liberia News Agency (LINA) have petitioned the National Assembly and key oversight bodies over what they describe as the agency’s deteriorating state. Their petition comes amid growing unease about stalled operations and financial irregularities affecting the institution.
According to the workers, more than seven hundred thousand dollars allocated to LINA for the 2024 and 2025 fiscal years has not been utilized. They say this failure has severely undermined the agency’s ability to function effectively and fulfill its national mandate.
The petitioners are calling on the National Assembly and the General Auditing Commission to investigate the status of these funds. They argue that the lack of transparency is hurting operations, staff welfare, and public trust in the state-run news agency.
The group is also appealing to the Liberian public to pay attention to the state of LINA, stressing that a credible, well-functioning national news system is vital for democracy and information flow. They hope their petition will trigger swift reforms and accountability measures.
