Ten members of the Azawad Liberation Front have formally surrendered their weapons in Mali’s northern Kidal region, marking a renewed push toward peace in the conflict-affected area. Their decision falls under the Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration, and Integration (DDR-I) framework currently being implemented by the transitional authorities.

The DDR-I mechanism aims to ease long-standing security tensions by providing former combatants a pathway back into civilian life or integration into national structures. Officials say these latest disarmaments demonstrate growing confidence in the process and its ability to stabilize the region.

Local leaders and security officials in Kidal welcomed the move, noting that every step toward disarmament reduces the risk of renewed violence and strengthens community trust. They emphasized the importance of sustained engagement to prevent fighters from returning to armed groups.

As Mali continues navigating insecurity and political transition, authorities hope that continued participation in DDR-I will accelerate peace-building efforts and support long-term national reconciliation.
