Ministers from across West Africa have gathered in Abuja, Nigeria, for the 55th session of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council. The meeting aims to assess the political and security situation across the region.
The session comes amid growing democratic setbacks and ongoing security threats affecting several member states. Leaders are under pressure to identify solutions that can stabilize the West African region.
During the high-level discussions at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters, foreign and defence ministers are evaluating governance and security issues. The goal is to strengthen regional coordination and improve responses to emerging crises.
Officials emphasized the importance of collaboration and proactive measures to safeguard democracy, prevent conflicts, and ensure peace and stability throughout West Africa.
