Liberia has taken a major step toward strengthening gender inclusion in its security sector with the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) hosting its first-ever Female Officers and Soldiers Colloquium. The event brought together women across various ranks to discuss their contributions, challenges, and aspirations within the military.
Held under the theme “Sisters in Service: Bounded by Bravery,” the colloquium created a dedicated space for mentorship, leadership development, and strategic dialogue. Participants explored ways to enhance gender parity and foster a more supportive environment for women serving in the AFL.
The gathering also highlighted the vital role women continue to play in peacekeeping, national defense, and institutional reform. Senior female officers shared their experiences, offering guidance and inspiration to younger personnel charting their military careers.
Designed as both a reflective and forward-looking forum, the colloquium aims to deepen engagement among female officers and strengthen their presence in decision-making spaces. It marks a promising step in Liberia’s efforts to build a more inclusive and resilient military force.
