Libya’s Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh held discussions on Monday with Dagvin Anderson, the commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM).

The talks were focused on exploring ways to strengthen military cooperation between Libya and the United States.

Areas of collaboration include training, equipment provision, and capacity-building programs, according to a statement issued by the Libyan government.

Prime Minister Dbeibeh highlighted the importance of supporting Libya’s military institutions through productive partnerships and advanced training initiatives.

For his part, Commander Anderson expressed AFRICOM’s commitment to offering support and stressed the need for continued coordination to bolster regional security.

As a reminder, Libya remains politically divided between two rival administrations. One is the internationally recognized Government of National Unity, led by Dbeibeh in Tripoli, which controls the western region. The other is a government headed by Osama Hammad, appointed by the House of Representatives in early 2022 based in Benghazi.
