Guinea-Bissau was thrown into turmoil as the Armed Forces High Command declared a coup on Wednesday, days before the provisional results of the November 23 elections were to be announced. The announcement followed reports of an alleged coup plot that quickly circulated online.

Army officer Dinin N’Chan, speaking on state media, confirmed the suspension of the constitution, closure of land, air, and sea borders, and a 9 pm to 6 am curfew. All activities of state institutions have been halted amid the takeover.

Citizens remain on edge as security measures are enforced, while regional observers and neighbors watch closely, hoping for stability and a peaceful resolution.

As the situation unfolds, attention is turning to how Guinea-Bissau will restore constitutional order and resume democratic processes in the coming days.
