Civil society organisations across West Africa are being encouraged to rebuild stronger ties with the communities they serve and rethink their strategies in an evolving civic landscape. Speakers at the opening of the 2025 West Africa Civil Society Week in Accra called for a renewed commitment to authenticity, collaboration, and responsiveness.
They highlighted growing social, political, and digital pressures that are reshaping the role of civil society, stressing that organisations must remain people-centred to stay effective.
Participants also urged CSOs to adopt innovative approaches, strengthen accountability, and reinforce partnerships that reflect the real needs of citizens.
The gathering sets the tone for a week of dialogue focused on revitalising civil society’s contribution to democratic governance and development in the region.
