Ghana’s President John Mahama has charged the country’s newly commissioned ambassadors to adopt a modern, impact-driven style of diplomacy that directly supports national development. Speaking at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, he emphasized that foreign missions must evolve into active engines of economic growth.

President Mahama underscored that diplomacy in today’s world goes far beyond “protocol representation and champagne drinking.” Instead, he said, it is a strategic tool for securing opportunities that strengthen the economy and improve the lives of Ghanaians at home.

He outlined clear expectations for the envoys, directing them to boost trade, open new markets for Ghanaian products, and attract long-term investment into key sectors. These include agriculture, manufacturing, energy, technology, and health—areas the government views as essential for transformation.

The president concluded by urging the diplomats to forge stronger ties with partner countries, promote Ghana’s competitiveness, and position the nation as a reliable destination for global cooperation and business.
