Senegal is hosting the One-Health-Secure regional workshop at the Pasteur Institute in Dakar, where experts from Maghreb and Sahel countries have gathered to strengthen collaboration on disease prevention. The five-day meeting, launched on Monday, is taking place at the CARE Center on the institute’s campus.

The workshop brings together African scientists and international specialists to focus on preventing and monitoring vector-borne diseases, which continue to threaten public health across the region. Participants will exchange data, tools, and best practices to improve early detection.

Organizers say the initiative is rooted in the “One Health” approach, which studies the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health. This model has become increasingly important as regions face rising risks from climate-linked and emerging epidemics.

Stakeholders believe the workshop will enhance regional cooperation and reinforce coordinated responses to future health threats. The outcomes are expected to support stronger surveillance systems and more resilient public-health strategies across participating countries.
