A mine explosion in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State has killed one person and left several others injured. Local officials say the device was planted by Boko Haram insurgents along a route commonly used by farmers.

Residents report that the victims were heading to their farmlands when the explosive detonated, triggering panic across nearby communities already grappling with insecurity. Emergency responders evacuated the injured to a local health facility.

Authorities warn that insurgents have increasingly targeted rural pathways to disrupt farming activities and restrict residents’ movement. The tactic has further strained food production in an area already hit hard by conflict.

Security agencies have launched a sweep of the surrounding farmlands to clear additional hidden devices and reassure residents, but communities say more sustained protection is urgently needed.
