On the program today, we will be looking at the State of democracy in the subregion with special attention on major developments making the headlines and leading conversations in the three main countries. First, a protest by the Gambian youths demanding accountability and transparency on the sales of former president Yahya Jammeh caught the attention of the government to provide answers.
Also, calm has finally returned to the long stalemate in Liberia’s parliament, as Speaker Koffa resigns and Richard Koon ascends to the speakership. How does that strengthen democracy in the country?
Plus, Mali’s transitional government dissolved all political parties’ activities in the country, a move widely criticized as an affront to the tenet of democracy.
Our guests are Baboucarr Sey, Deputy Spokesperson, (GALA) Anderson Miamen, Executive Director, Center for Transparency and Accountability (CENTAL) and Hardi Yakubu, Human Rights Activist in Mali.
