In Nigeria, the Federal Government has shelved plans to implement a 15 percent import duty on petroleum products, a policy that had been approved by President Bola Tinubu three weeks ago.
The decision was announced by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and was originally scheduled to take effect on November 21, 2025.
The proposed tariff, initiated by the Federal Inland Revenue Service, would have applied to the cost, insurance, and freight value of imported petrol and diesel.
Citizens and industry experts have welcomed the suspension, citing relief for consumers and businesses amid existing economic pressures.
