Traffic in Monrovia was brought to a halt on Thursday as People Living With Disabilities staged a major protest over alleged mismanagement of public funds. The demonstration, which included children, blocked key routes linking the State House, National Assembly, and central business district.
Protesters accused Sam Dean, Director of the National Commission on Disabilities, of neglecting the community and mismanaging funds meant to support them. Dean has denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, Liberia’s lower house of parliament has announced that it will launch an investigation into the claims, as calls for transparency and accountability continue to grow.
