This week’s edition is on the effects of deforestation on Indigenous communities
Deforestation, the purposeful clearing or cutting down of forests and the conversion of that land to a non-forest use, such as farmland, ranches, or urban development, results in the long-term or permanent loss of forest cover.
Primarily driven by human activities, deforestation severely impacts communities on social, economic, cultural, health, and environmental levels, particularly local and Indigenous populations who depend directly on forests for their survival and way of life.
