In Senegal, tensions have emerged between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and the ruling Pastef party over the leadership of the Diomaye Presidential Coalition.
On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, President Faye terminated Aïda Mbodj’s role as head of the coalition and appointed former Prime Minister Aminata Touré to spearhead its reorganization. The president cited the need for greater efficiency and structure.
The Pastef party swiftly rejected the move, asserting that President Faye does not have the authority to dismiss Mbodj, who was appointed by the coalition’s conference of leaders.
Additionally, the party voiced disapproval of Touré’s appointment, arguing that her values do not align with those of the coalition, deepening the political rift within Senegal’s ruling ranks.
