Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has dismissed a request from the Minority Caucus to suspend the vetting of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.
Addressing Parliament on Friday, November 7, the Speaker ruled that neither constitutional provisions nor parliamentary procedures support halting the vetting over ongoing court cases.
The Minority had argued that the process should pause until all legal challenges filed by the removed Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, are settled.
Despite their objections, Speaker Bagbin has scheduled the vetting for Monday, November 10.
