Burkina Faso’s transitional authorities have introduced a new monthly ritual to honor the late Thomas Sankara, assassinated on October 15, 1987.
Under the directive, a military officer will stand guard at the Sankara Memorial in Ouagadougou every first Thursday of the month to pay homage to him and his slain comrades.
The initiative aims to institutionalize national remembrance and reinforce Sankara’s legacy in the country’s collective memory.
