Cameroon’s Constitutional Council is set to announce the results of the October 12 presidential election today amid heightened political tension.

Protests have erupted across several cities, led by supporters of opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who accuses authorities of electoral fraud in the tightly contested vote against incumbent President Paul Biya.

Over the weekend, Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji revealed that three suspected terrorists were arrested for allegedly planning attacks during the demonstrations. He assured citizens that public order and security will be reinforced nationwide.

Meanwhile, police in Douala confirmed the arrest of three prominent opposition politicians accused of inciting violence ahead of the official declaration.
