The Liberian government’s decision to temporarily host Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, an alleged member of the notorious MS-13 gang, has stirred intense public debate and safety concerns.

Garcia, identified by U.S. authorities as part of the transnational criminal organization known for its brutal violence, is being deported under a special arrangement announced on October 24, 2025.

Despite Washington’s firm stance that Garcia will never reside in U.S. territory, Liberia’s Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti defended the move, stating it was made on humanitarian grounds in response to a formal U.S. request.

The decision, however, has left many Liberians uneasy, questioning the potential security risks and the government’s capacity to manage such a high-profile case.
