In Senegal, devastating floods have once again struck the eastern region, displacing thousands of residents and destroying homes and farmlands. The Bakel department has been hit hardest, following days of heavy rainfall and the overflowing of the Senegal River.
Local authorities say the situation has reached emergency levels, prompting the activation of a national relief plan to provide shelter, food, and medical support to affected families.
Daouda Sène, the Prefect of Bakel, described the flooding as one of the worst in recent years, highlighting the urgent need for long-term flood prevention measures.
Relief efforts are currently underway, but officials warn that continued rains could worsen the crisis, threatening livelihoods and public health across the region.
