Ghanaian authorities have stepped up security along the Elubo border in the Western Region amid reports of more than 1,500 Ivorians crossing into the country to escape election-related unrest in Côte d’Ivoire. The move follows growing fears of instability ahead of Côte d’Ivoire’s presidential election on October 25.
Officials say joint security teams, including immigration, police, and military personnel, have been deployed to monitor movements and ensure border safety. Temporary screening centers have also been set up to manage arrivals and assess humanitarian needs.
The Ghana Immigration Service has assured the public that the situation remains under control but emphasized vigilance as tensions rise across the border.
Regional authorities are coordinating with international partners to prepare contingency plans should the influx of refugees increase as Côte d’Ivoire’s election day approaches.
