In Liberia, thousands of supporters of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) gathered in Congo Town over the weekend to mark the groundbreaking of the party’s first national headquarters. The event drew a massive crowd, reflecting the CDC’s enduring grassroots appeal despite recent political setbacks.
The milestone comes years after the party’s rise to prominence in the 2017 presidential elections, which brought it to power under former President George Weah. Until now, the CDC had operated without a permanent central office.
Saturday’s ceremony also comes at a time of political transition, following the CDC’s defeat in the 2023 elections by President Joseph Boakai. Party leaders described the project as a symbol of renewal and commitment to the future.
Supporters say the new headquarters will serve as a hub for reorganizing and strengthening the party’s structure ahead of future elections.
