In Liberia, a new memorial site has been inaugurated in Bong County to honor the more than 500 victims of the 1994 massacre. For the families of those who perished, the dedication marks a meaningful step toward healing and reconciliation after decades of civil unrest.

The project was funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and implemented by the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR) at a cost of 31,000 dollars. The memorial stands as a testament to the country’s ongoing efforts to confront its painful past.

According to reporter Abraham Parker, the site is intended to provide a peaceful space for remembrance and reflection for families and communities deeply affected by the atrocities. It also reinforces Liberia’s broader commitment to justice, human rights, and national reconciliation.
