Ghana’s Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced Cabinet approval for the absorption of 6,200 teachers who have been working for over eight months without pay.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Minister said the move followed petitions from affected educators to the Ministry of Education. He assured that the teachers would soon receive staff identification numbers and their accumulated salaries.
Iddrisu added that Cabinet has also authorized the Minister of Finance to reallocate about GH¢1.1 billion to accommodate both health workers and teachers awaiting formal postings and salary verifications.
