Burkina Faso’s transitional leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has called on public institutions to disengage from Western media outlets, accusing them of spreading narratives detrimental to Africa’s image.

He further instructed all government ministries to end subscription contracts with these organizations as part of a broader effort to promote information sovereignty.

Traoré made the remarks on Monday during the flag-raising ceremony marking the second phase of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation (JEPPC).

The move underscores his administration’s growing push for media independence and African-led narratives in the country’s public communication space.
