In The Gambia, former Auditor General Modou Ceesay has sued the government over what he calls his unlawful removal from office.
Ceesay, represented by Counsellor Lamin Darbo, filed the case at the Supreme Court against the Attorney General and the Inspector General of Police, arguing that his dismissal was unconstitutional and without legal basis.
His legal team claims that police officers forcibly removed him from the National Audit Office, violating several provisions of the 1997 Constitution and the National Audit Office Act of 2015, which guarantee the independence of the Auditor General.
The Supreme Court has since issued a 21-day deadline for the Attorney General and the IGP to file their defense.
