In Benin, Romuald Wadagni, the 49-year-old Finance Minister and designated successor to President Patrice Talon, has been officially endorsed as the ruling party’s presidential candidate ahead of the April 2026 election.
The endorsement ceremony, held on Saturday in Parakou, featured a festive crowd and campaign-style atmosphere, underscoring the ruling coalition’s show of unity and strength.
Wadagni was unveiled alongside his running mate and current Vice President, Mariam Chabi Talata, who is expected to play a key role in the campaign.
Party leaders described Wadagni as the figure best suited to continue President Talon’s reforms and “amplify the nation’s transformation agenda.”
