Niger has postponed the start of the 2025–2026 academic year from October 1 to October 15, citing widespread flooding across the country.
According to the government, many school buildings are being used as temporary shelters for flood victims, making it impossible to begin classes as planned.
The two-week delay is expected to give authorities time to assess the damage and prepare safe alternatives for students and teachers.
Officials say the move is necessary to ensure a secure and effective start to the school year despite the ongoing crisis.
