Nigeria’s Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, a public holiday to mark the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

In a statement, the Ministry of Interior urged citizens to uphold patriotism, unity, and resilience — values that have defined the nation since 1960. President Bola Tinubu also encouraged Nigerians to stand firm behind the Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes national renewal, economic growth, and shared prosperity.

Although the traditional military parade has been canceled, a lineup of commemorative events will still be held. At a press briefing in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation Muhammed Idris Malagi unveiled this year’s theme and highlighted the Tinubu administration’s achievements ahead of the celebration.
