Guinea is marking 16 years since the September 28, 2009 massacre in Conakry, where over 150 people were killed during a peaceful protest crackdown.
After years of delay, a historic trial began in 2022, culminating in July 2024 with the conviction of eight accused, including former junta leader Moussa Dadis Camara, for crimes against humanity.
But victims and their families are now challenging the presidential pardon granted to Camara. They have filed an appeal demanding both a retrial and a supplementary hearing.
Lawyers for the victims, including Maitre Hamidou Barry, insist that justice cannot be compromised if Guinea is to move forward.
