Mali celebrated its 65th independence anniversary on Monday with a civil and military parade on Independence Boulevard — the first since the military assumed power.

On the eve of the holiday, transitional president General Assimi Goïta addressed the nation. He emphasized strengthening security and boosting energy access as priorities for his administration.

Notably, Goïta avoided mention of Mali’s political transition or the country’s democratic future, choosing instead to highlight ongoing reforms in sectors he described as vital for stability and national sovereignty.
