Tidjane Thiam’s leadership of Côte d’Ivoire’s main opposition party, the PDCI, is once again facing legal scrutiny. Two party activists have petitioned the Abidjan Court of First Instance to annul his appointment.
The plaintiffs, local section leaders from Tanda and Soba, are seeking the cancellation of the party’s 9th Extraordinary Congress held on May 12, arguing it violated PDCI statutes and the 1993 law on political parties.
They are also pushing for the installation of an interim president until the matter is resolved. The case is scheduled to be heard on October 2.
