In Senegal, stakeholders are calling on the government to implement urgent measures to curb sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and strengthen reproductive health services.

A five-year study by the International Development Research Centre reveals that the Kolda region accounts for nearly 70% of female genital mutilation (FGM) cases in the country.

The report also highlights alarming levels of abuse, with 50.7% of young girls experiencing physical violence, alongside widespread rape and forced marriages.

Stakeholders warn that without swift reforms, the future of Senegalese youth remains at risk. They are urging the government to prioritize reproductive health and enforce stronger protections against gender-based violence.
