The 2024 Afrobarometer report has raised concerns about declining political engagement among young people in Africa, including Ghana. The study reveals that youths are participating less in voting, community meetings, and other civic activities compared to older generations.
The only area where younger citizens show strong involvement is in protests, highlighting a preference for more direct forms of activism.
Researchers warn that these generational gaps pose serious challenges for political participation on the world’s most youthful continent. Without meaningful avenues for engagement, governments risk alienating a significant portion of their population.
